Excel - Convert Text to Numbers, Dates and More...

Sometimes when data is imported into Excel from another system it can be problematic. A common example is where imported data is stored as text rather than a number or a date for instance. This causes problems when attempting to use a formula or formatting the data.

To convert from text, follow these 4 very simple steps...

  1. Highlight the range of text to be converted.
  2. Go to Data, Text to Columns.
  3. Continue to step 3 and choose the data type you want, if you want to convert to a number then keep the data type set to general, if you wish to convert to a date then select date
  4. Click Finish.
